Spiritual Baths

Spiritual baths have been used for centuries by various cultures and religions to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit. It is believed that these baths can help to remove negative energy and promote spiritual growth while restoring inner peace and creativity. When you need to invite intuition back into your life and release old toxic energy, a spiritual bath is a perfect remedy.

Traditional Spiritual Baths

Set your intention: Before starting your bath, set an intention for what you want to accomplish with the bath. This could be anything from releasing negative energy to inviting blessings and abundance into your life. Feel free to cast a circle or set up a boundary around the bath for protection.

Prepare your bath: Use some of these common items to enhance the experience of your spiritual bath.

    1. Salt: A powerful detox and agent for protection from outside influences. Salt can help remove negative energy, relax the muscles, and promote a sense of calm and clarity.
    2. Herbs: Lavender, sage, and rosemary are often used in spiritual baths for their, relaxing, cleansing, and healing properties.
    3. Essential oils: Frankincense, myrrh, jasmine, and sandalwood can help to promote spiritual awareness and enhance meditation practices. It also keeps your skin smooth and smelling good.
    4. Crystals: Amethyst, clear quartz, lapis lazuli, and rose quartz can help to amplify the healing and cleansing properties of the bath.
    5. Candles: Representing our spirit, the flickering flame sets the mood for the sacred space. Choose a candle that matches your intention, such as blue for calm energy.
    6. Music or Guided Meditation: Listen to some soothing music, nature sounds, or a healing meditation on the Insight timer.
    7. Extra cleansing: Add some cascarilla and or Florida water to repel negativity, cleanse your energy body, and purify the bath water.

8. Relax and soak: Soak in the bath for at least 20-30 minutes. As you soak, focus on your intention, and visualize yourself being cleansed and renewed.

9. Close the ritual: When you’re ready to finish the bath, drain the water and visualize any negative energy or emotions being released. Some practitioners believe it’s best to air dry after a spiritual bath whereas I personally prefer using a clean white towel to signify my rebirth into the light. Remember to thank all your guides for support and close the ritual in any way that feels appropriate for you.

    Goddess Baths

You can follow many of the same practices as a traditional spiritual bath. However, there are some key differences. A goddess bath is like creating a portal to connect with the energy of a specific goddess. It’s partly an offering and partly a connection tool. For me, it is like an immersion into the essence of the goddess. The intention you set would be aligned with Goddess’s key attributes and the ingredients used would be the offering to gain her favor. At the end of the ritual thank the goddess for her presence and allow her to walk with you throughout your day and nights to keep the blessings potent and alive within you.

Oshun Bath: For money add 5 drops of green food dye and for abundance and sensuality add 5 drops of orange food dye. Here are some prevalent ingredients to add to your bath: chamomile, orange slices from 5 oranges, a pinch of cinnamon, yellow flowers, and sweet fragrances such as perfume. Here are some sacred items to Oshun we can place around our baths: honey, river water or stones, peacock feathers, mirror, fancy hand fans, brass jewelry, or flowers. Her number is 5 and her day of worship is Friday. She is the Goddess of love, beauty, and fertility. Her baths are for awakening our confidence, abundance, and romance. When a woman wants to have a baby she will take an Oshun bath, make love, and thank the Goddess for her blessings to ensure the egg takes the seed.

Yemoja Bath: Mix 7 drops of blue food coloring into some Epsom salt or sea salt. When using Epsom salt, add a tiny bit of sea salt to honor the goddess (we can envision the Epsom salt as sea salt if that is easier). Set the mood of your bath with sea-scented candles, seashells, and ocean sounds. Envision your feet in the sand as the waves break around your legs. You are an honored guest of the mermaid goddess as her sea foam envelops you and caresses your skin. She is a caring and compassionate mother; this is a great time to do some heart-centered work with her. Or rest in her arms as she holds you with unconditional love. Her number is 7 and her day of the week is Monday (she is a moon goddess). Although, in Santeria, some celebrate her on Saturday.

Spiritual baths can be a powerful and transformative practice that can help you to cleanse your body and mind while promoting spiritual growth and healing. Try incorporating them into your own spiritual practice to experience their many benefits.
