The pineal gland is seen as a gateway to higher consciousness and spiritual experiences. It is found near the pituitary gland and Hypothalamus and produces melatonin which affects circadian rhythms and reproductive hormones. Ancient religions and cultures relate the pineal gland to intuition, clairvoyance, and spiritual awakening. It is known as the third eye or Anja center and has the ability to provide a second sight that is guided by our higher self. Certain studies show a link between the pineal gland and N, N-dimethyltryptamine, also known as DMT, sometimes called “the spirit molecule” or “the seat of the soul” because of its relationship to higher consciousness. Activating this center creates a visual access point to allow us to tap into an enlightened state of being. To begin the process below, first read through all the steps, find a comfortable space to sit or lay back, close your eyes, and move through the practice with ease.
1. Breathing
Step 1 – Do 8 belly breaths:
- Place one hand on your upper chest and the other hand on your belly, below the ribcage.

- Allow your belly to relax, without forcing it inward by squeezing or clenching your muscles. When breathing in become aware of your belly expanding.
- Breathe in slowly through your nose. The air should move into your nose and downward so that you feel your stomach rise with your other hand and fall inward (toward your spine).
- Exhale slowly through slightly pursed lips. Take note of the hand on your chest, which should remain relatively still.
Step 2 – Become aware of your heart beating in your chest. Visualize the blood flowing, carrying oxygen throughout your body, and nourishing you with every breath.
Step 3 – Imagine with each breath the air gets sweeter, until you are inhaling bliss and exhaling density. As you breathe, your body becomes lighter and freer.
Step 4 – As the density turns to light, imagine you are exhaling transformed life essence from within you. Your breath is blessed and invigorated by your heart and intention. Imagine that each conscious breath is a treasure; share it with the environment and the life around you.
2. Tapping
Gently tapping your forehead in between your eyebrows activates the pineal gland and all three structures of the Crystal Palace. The vibration sends a wave directly back to the pineal
gland, activating it, the pituitary, and the hypothalamus in the process.
3. Pressing
Pressing your tongue to the roof of your mouth activates the pituitary gland and, through its physical and chemical connections, activated the pineal gland and hypothalamus as well.
4. Squeezing
When we squeeze our eyes, the muscular connection with the sphenoid activates the pituitary. Sucking in our cheeks moves the jaw, which stimulates the neck and cranial pumps. Contracting the pelvic floor, the vibration then travels up the spine. The intracranial membrane system transfers the vibration to the center of the head, activating the pineal and pituitary glands.
5. Toning – 3 times each and repeat.
Toning OM (sound of the universe and representing oneness) shanti (peace) and Yan (beauty).
Play this song while chanting.
Once you are done with the practice, sit silently or play some repetitive sounds (drumming) for as long as you can. Ground yourself into the earth, call on your spirit guides, create a safe container for you to expand your consciousness, then open your heart and mind to guidance. Practice as often as you can, to develop an awareness of your soul’s journey.
